ALBANY, New York — Nancy Anne Milardo, 56, of Albany, New York, formerly of Middletown/Portland Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 19, 2023.

Nancy was born on January 25, 1967 in Middletown, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Nebo S. Milardo Jr. and Carol (Leadbetter) Milardo, who both preceded her in death. Her beloved brother, Paul Anthony Milardo, who passed on October 31, 2021, must have greeted her with open arms at the Pearly-Gates.

She was also predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Nebo Sr. and Mary (Cannata) Milardo of Portland, Connecticut, and maternal grandparents, Gilbert and Catherine (Chisolm) Leadbetter of Camden, Maine.

Nancy leaves behind her sister Elaine Milardo of Bremen, Maine, formerly of Middletown, Connecticut and half-brother Josiah Milardo of Whitehall, New York. Nancy also leaves behind a few aunts and uncles, several cousins and a magnitude of friends and former colleagues who loved her dearly.

Nancy graduated from Portland High School in 1985 and went to work at Connecticut Underwriters, Inc. at 19 years old. There she worked her way up through the ranks and ended her career as an Underwriting Assistant. She loved her colleagues, especially Maureen and Suzy and most importantly Henry Stone, the owner.

She loved listening to music most of all, especially with her brother Paul. They had a very special bond. Her love for music genres spanned from Led Zeppelin to Taylor Swift. Most especially, she worshipped and followed The Dave Matthews Band (DMB) and was thrilled to have attended their concert in Saratoga Springs, NY in 2019.

Nancy was an animal lover. She adored her cats: Moonie, Princess Puff-Puff and Mae. She donated to several animal charities especially The Asher House and animal rescue.

Nancy would travel to Maine and spend most of her winters with our Beloved Mother as much as possible after she became legally blind in Oct. of 2005. Her Mother “Ma” was the single most important person in her life other than her Beloved brother Paul and her cats. They spent time having their coffee and admiring Ma’s flowers and watching the hummingbirds together.

Nancy’s two cousins Becky and Rachel were very special to her. They were very close and both very helpful and compassionate when Nancy lost her eyesight. She had several friends who helped her especially, Bonnie, Athena, Marco and Karen during that traumatic time. Andy was also a very dear friend in the last years of her life.

As her dear friend Andy wrote and best friend Donna shared, “to her friends, Nancy was a bright light that shined in this world.” Donna went on to share that “she was devoted, compassionate and had a great sense of humor. There was no way you would leave her presence without having a few great laughs!”.

Nancy will be greatly missed, but it is comforting to know she is at Peace and no longer suffering. In the words of the DMB, as Nancy was their #1 Fan, “Turns out not where, but who you’re with that really matters”.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Nancy can be made to the Asher House Sanctuary.
