CAMDEN — Old photographs and toys are featured in Merchants Through the Windows, Camden-Rockport Historical Society’s new winter exhibit, beginning Sunday, Dec. 3, from 1-3 p.m., as Christmas By The Sea winds down.

Photographs of early store fronts in 1800s Camden and Rockport, from the museum’s collection, will take you back to a time when you would ride the trolley, or horse and sleigh from one village to the next to do your holiday shopping.

Display cases will put you in mind of Christmas shopping for children’s toys and games two centuries ago, according to the Society, in a news release. Featured in the toy collection are the oversized riding toys and sleds that belonged to the late Jack Williams, founder of the Snow Bowl and toboggan chute.

“A fire engine and pump truck, a delivery truck and a train engine will stand in sharp contrast to today’s hand held electronic games that seem to be on every kids’ wish list,” said the release.

Bring the kids to view holiday shopping as their great grandparents might have done, and enjoy some refreshments.

The exhibit will run through February.
