remaining united by a common thread

Camden Conference hosts Unity Through Diversity: Understanding India Through Food

ROCKLAND — India, the world's most populous nation, is also perhaps the world's most diverse, and the concept of “Unity in Diversity” is a fundamental aspect of India’s cultural fabric. Diversity in India covers a rich cultural tapestry of food, languages, religions, celebrations, customs and traditions.

Dee Patel, owner of Namaste Indian Food, in Rockport, will discuss these essential characteristics of Indian culture in a talk Thursday, Dec. 7, from 6:30 - 8 p.m., at the Rockland Public Library. The event will be hybrid – for more information, or a Zoom link, please contact elewis@rocklandmaine.gov.

Patel will highlight how each of these elements varies significantly across the country, reflecting the uniqueness of each region, and how despite these differences, India remains united by a common thread, forming a unique blend of cultures that coexist harmoniously. This sense of unity, she explains, is not just a recognition of differences but a celebration of them, showcasing the beauty of India’s diverse identity.

Dee Patel's talk will be in anticipation of the 37th Annual Camden Conference, INDIA: Rising Ambitions, Challenges at Home, taking place live from the Camden Opera House February 16-18, 2024.
