Paul Sullivan’s Christmas in Maine concert wraps up Camden Opera House year

CAMDEN — Camden Opera House, 29 Elm St., wraps up its year with Paul Sullivan: Christmas in Maine, Saturday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. The festive concert will benefit MCH Meals on Wheels and the Camden Area Christian Food Pantry.

Grammy Award winner Paul Sullivan will perform on the opera house’s Steinway piano, along with cellist Marisa Solomon and flutist Elizabeth Downing. They will celebrate the heart and soul of Christmas with fresh new arrangements of favorite old carols and Sullivan’s original compositions inspired by the season of giving.

Sullivan has a richly varied and distinguished career as a composer and a pianist, according to the Opera House, in a news release. As a soloist, with his trio, and as a member of the Paul Winter Consort, he has played concert tours in most of the United States and Europe, as well as the Middle East, Central America and Asia. Sullivan has worked in some of New York’s most prestigious jazz clubs as well, playing with a wide variety of masters. In the theater world, he has worked as a musical director, pianist, and/or conductor for many Broadway and Off-Broadway shows and also enjoyed a long connection with Pilobolus Dance Theater.

Solomon is a member of Bangor Symphony Orchestra and the Ceólta Cello Duo, and is on the adjunct faculty at UMaine in Orono and the faculty for the Kneisel Hall Program for Maine Students.

Downing is a soloist, chamber musician and faculty at the University of Maine School of Performing Arts where she teaches flute, flute pedagogy, majoring in music, and coaches chamber music.

    Doors will open 7 p.m.

    Choose-your-own reserved seat tickets are $20 in advance, $25 day-of-show, via camdenoperahouse.com or 236-3154.
