UPDATED: Maine State Police say Searsmont shooting a murder/suicide, name of victim released

    Maine State Police have released additional information regarding the deaths of two adults at a Searsmont home Monday, Nov. 27. 

    On Monday evening and Tuesday morning, Nov. 28, autopsies were conducted on the two adults who were discovered deceased at a home on Borough Road. The deceased have been identified as Amy Nickerson, 50, of Stockton Springs, and Lance Lucas, 50, of Searsmont, according to the most recent release. 

    The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death of Amy Nickerson as a homicide, with the cause of the death listed as a gunshot wound. The death of Lance Lucas has been ruled as a suicide, with the cause of death also listed as a gunshot wound. 

    According to the media release, Nickerson and Lucas were domestic partners who had recently broken up.

    Detectives with MSP’s Major Crimes Unit-Central continue to investigate the sequence of events that occurred prior to and during the incident.


    SEARSMONT — Maine State Police released a brief press release Monday around 7 p.m. regarding the deaths of two adults following an incident on Borough Road in Searsmont. 

    Scant information was included in the release, which stated that the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department responded to the respective home at approximately 1:50 p.m., Monday, Nov. 27, where officers discovered two deceased adults. 

    The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-Central is handling the investigation. The decedents will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death, according to the release.

    There is reportedly no risk to the public. 

    MSP included in the release that this is the only information available tonight.

    “Additional information will be released when it’s appropriate to do so,” the release reads.
