Stephen Paul Stadler, obituary

Mon, 11/06/2023 - 12:45pm

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Paul Stadler on September 7, 2023, at the age of 68. He was born on November 11, 1954, to George M. Stadler and Eunice E. (Brown) Stadler.

Steve spent most of his life in mid-coast Maine – Rockport and South Thomaston. He was happiest outside. He was an avid gardener, hunter, and fisherman. His love of nature is shared by his family. He was keenly interested in history, particularly the history of the railroad, and enjoyed model railroading.

He loved his children and grandchildren (though he may have loved cats more). He had a wicked sense of humor and was especially fond of teaching his grandchildren to do things he thought were funny – the youngest started sticking her tongue out at people at a very young age thanks to his tutelage. He was a good friend and neighbor who could always be counted on to help when possible. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back with no questions asked.

He is survived by his children Lydia Grassa, Winona Stadler, Jessie Stadler, and their spouses; his grandchildren Mariella and Elaina Grassa, Evelyn Jones, Charlotte Stadler, and Rowan and Emmett Russo; and his siblings Mark Stadler, Laura Silver, and Johanna Stadler.

The family plans a private Celebration of Life. Memorial donations may be made to the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Thomaston, Maine.
