Charlotte Goodwin Bowen, obituary

Sun, 11/12/2023 - 11:30am

Charlotte Goodwin Bowen passed away on Friday Nov. 10, 2023 at the age of 93. She was the daughter of Beulah and Marion Goodwin of Brooks, Maine, and had three sisters, Nancy Roberts Shute, Roberta (Bobby) Riley, and Emma Lowe as well as a half-brother, Richard Stickles Hutchins.

Charlotte graduated from Brooks Morse Memorial High School in 1948, met and married her lifelong husband, Norman, the same year. Together they raised four children, Gail, Michael, Annette and Bradley in their family home of 72 years in Belfast; most summers were spent at the camp at Half Moon Pond with family and friends.

They had seven grandchildren, Monica and Kelly, Michael and Gregory, Jess, Sarah and Daniel; three great grandchildren, Ben, Zachary and Harley (another on his way) and one great-great granddaughter, River.

Charlotte played basketball in high school, bowled, golfed and curled as an adult and retired watching sports on TV, never missing her favorite Tom Brady! She worked many years at Colburn Shoe store, JC Penney’s and finally at Bowen’s Tavern first for Mike and Wendy, then for Mike and Bridget. Both Norman and Charlotte were the supervisors of Brad’s wood business that they watched from their porch recliners.

Charlotte enjoyed gardening and decorating with her daughter Gail, RV adventures with Mike and Wendy, lunches with Annette (especially the margueritas), watching the deer and birds with Brad and spending holidays with the whole family at home.

Charlotte’s last years after Norman’s passing in 2020 were spent in her “tiny home” with her dog Buddy in Warren. Annette and her husband Craig had a small home built for her on their land where she enjoyed new foods, fancy martinis and learned about good wines.

Her surviving children are; Gail and Dave Berry in Belfast, daughter-in-law Wendy in Summerfield, Florida, Annette and Craig Underhill in Warren and Bradley in Belfast.

She was predeceased by her parents and her three sisters; her husband, Norman; her grandson Gregory; her daughter in law Karen Boguen Bowen; and most recently her son Michael.

Services will be held Tuesday Nov. 21, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Riposta Funeral Home, in Belfast, a time for sharing stories of her life and celebrating the great life and friends that she had. She will be laid to rest beside Norman in Grove Cemetary, Belfast, Maine.
