Belfast Area High School students in Genna Black and Chip Lagerbom's Marine Studies class continued their Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor safety course with John McMillan as part of their Belfast Marine Institute pathway to endorsement.

One unit involved learning about flares, their differences and usage and how to safely deploy them whether at sea or on land. Another unit focused on fire, such as analyzing the different kinds (A, B, C + D) and the different extinguishers needed to fight each kind, how to safely approach and deal with a fire with a back-up helper, and how to properly deploy and use a fire extinguisher.
