Camden Conference President Hobson To Speak at Camden Rotary Club

Sun, 11/26/2023 - 7:15am

Wayne Hobson, President of the Camden Conference, will speak at the Camden Rotary Club luncheon meeting on Tuesday, November 28.

Hobson will outline the upcoming Conference, “India: Rising Ambitions, Challenges at Home,” to be held February 16 – 18 at the Camden Opera House, and via live stream at remote venues, including the Strand Theater in Rockland and Hannaford Hall in Portland. Residential live stream is also available.

venty-five years after independence, India is on track to have the world’s largest population and the second-largest economy. It is pursuing a unique path as a democracy and as an ambitious player in global affairs.  Among the many questions the conference will address:  What’s at stake for China, Russia and the United States as India expands its role in the global economy and becomes a more assertive leader on the world stage?

Hobson is a retired academic who moved to Rockland from southern California in 2005 and has been a year-round Maine resident since his full retirement in 2010. He has been active in the Rockland Shakespeare Society and currently serves as its president. He served his entire academic career in the American Studies Department at California State University, Fullerton, which he joined after earning his PhD from Stanford University in American History, with a secondary field in African History.

Camden Rotary Club has served the community since 1925, raising funds to help local nonprofit organizations in Knox County and Lincolnville through an annual grants program, distributing educational scholarships, presenting its annual Music by the Sea Celebration every 4th of July, and providing volunteers for local service projects. The club meets at noon each Tuesday at the First Congregational Church, Camden, at 55 Elm Street. Visitors are welcome.
