    This week West Bay Rotary members and up to 60 guests enjoyed an exciting launch into space heading to the International Space Station, and then returning to earth, with NASA Astronaut Stephen G. Bowen! Bowen had just completed his six-month term as Commander of SpaceX Crew-6 on the International Space Station and was here in Maine on a visit with family.

It is the story of Fievel Mousekewitz and his family as they emigrate from Russia to the United States for freedom. However, he gets lost and must find a way to reunite with them.

    Damariscove Island is a ghost island. It is an uninhabited place, two hundred nine acres covered mostly in tall grass, raspberries, blackberries, and beach roses with a rectangular freshwater pond, huge in comparison to Damariscove’s overall size. The old Coast Guard Station and a few buildings including an island museum remain. Since 2005 it has been owned and managed by the Boothbay Region Land Trust and functions as a bird sanctuary during the summer months.

His first mission, STS-126, took place in November 2008, and his second was STS-132 in May 2010.

    The availability of single-family homes remains lower than average with Realtors across the state reporting just 1,410 homes being sold in September 2023, a 25.4 percent decrease compared to September of last year. The statewide median sales price (MSP) increased 14.17 percent to $376,750. The MSP indicates that half of the homes were sold for more and half sold for less.

    Due to this weekend’s rain the Oct. 22 Camden Snow Bowl Fall Foliage Chairlift Rides and Ski Patrol Pizza fundraiser are canceled. Weather permitting, the final day of Fall Foliage Chairlift Rides will be held Sunday, Oct. 29, with plenty of pizza and other goodies! Chairlift rides begin at 10 a.m. and the last chair is loaded promptly at 2 p.m. Pizza comes out of the woodfired oven beginning at 11 a.m. Chairlift rides are $10 per person; pizza is by suggested donation of $6/slice.

It was a dark November night and a man called Stephen was riding a work shuttle bus from the new MBNA offices in Belfast to Camden.

Sexual harassment in schools is not new and it can happen anywhere. Nearly half of public school students in grades 7-12 experience sexual harassment.
